Ellie's Grunts and Grumbles... Ellie came to live with us in March of 2003 as a teeny 5-pound piglet and spent the first few weeks with us inside the house. Named after the mischievous children's storybook character, "Eloise, " she's our "little angel straight from heaven." Sometimes. Sometimes not. Okay, mostly not. She's got a power though, and everyone who's ever met her, instantly falls in love with her. Although she is a 600+ pound "farm pig" she IS A PET and IS NOT FOR MEAT--much to the chagrin of an awful lot of fellow Mainers especially Kathy's brother Joe. This page is a photo documentary dedicated to "The Pink One." Any donations gladly accepted here at Ellie's Magic Food Portal! The year 2006 brought many changes. My room got moved so now I no
longer live between the two horses and I don't have to rely on anyone to let
me in or out of the barn. I have my very own door to come and go as I
please! I like it a lot.
October 8, 2007 - It has come to my attention that I may have been giving the wrong impression about what it's like to keep Ellie for a pet. She is not the lovable and cuddly creature that I may portray here with my pictures. Maybe about 2 days out of the month I can get near her for some cuddlin', but most of the time she is a BEAST. I would most definitely not recommend keeping a pig of her breeding for a pet to love on, and I would not recommend small children be allowed near her in any situation, no matter how sedate she may seem. Like a velociraptor, sudden moves really set her off and she will give chase and is surprisingly agile for her size. She is ornery I'd say 85% of the time and will snap at me with that massive mouth of hers when she is ugly...sometimes without warning. You will never see me approach Ellie wearing shorts--always jeans and protective boots. She is, however, incredibly smart and incredibly entertaining, and surprisingly gets along with the horses incredibly well, but that is because she was raised with them from a teensy weensy piglet and they showed her the ropes as she grew, so they are the boss of her. If you ever think you want a "bacon pig" for a pet, please come meet Ellie up close and personal first--that'll learn' ya!
